I have to start off by stating that this review is not really the usual case for people who would wear these socks.

I was more than a little disappointed in how these socks performed. I have some basic "got them in a 6 pack for half the price" wool socks that actually keep my feet warmer.

So, a little while ago we had a flight coming in from off continent. It was -60F out and everything was freezing up. Including the plane... and my feet. Now, the day before I was out there as well in my "got them in a 6 pack for half the price" pair of wool socks at -55F and my feet got a little cold. I put these on expecting to be at least a little warmer. Oh man was I wrong. My feet were ice blocks by the end of 3 hours.

The only reason I can think of is because of how darn thick they are. My cheap socks are thin enough that there is plenty of space between my feet and the wall of the boots. These are so thick that they fit snugly. Seeing as I'm not wearing these all the time, they just won't work for me. I'm not going to keep a second pair of boots around that are a size bigger just for these socks.

The one redeeming part of them is that they make good slipper socks for walking around the dorms. I'm afraid that I simply can NOT use them outside in these temps.

People give negative reviews on an item like this because they do not know how to use or wear winter clothing.

With socks it is very simple, a sock like this one will be fine in sub-zero weather if used correctly.

You boot, shoe or whatever you wearing must be big enough to accommodate this or any heavy sock. If your boot or shoe is too tight or even just tight, YOUR FEET WILL BE COLD no matter what material the sock is made of.

Air must circulate in your boot or shoe in order for your feet stay warm. The natural warmth given off by your foot will circulate inside the boot or shoe. If your foot is constricted by boots or shoes that are too small to accommodate heavy or multiple socks your feet will be cold.

If wearing heavy thick socks or multiple socks ALWAYS buy boots at least a half size larger than you would normally wear. Sometimes you have to go a full size bigger depending on the boot or shoe.

For even better results when wearing winter socks like this one, you should wear a sock liner under your winter socks. These are specially made to wear under heavy socks and are very thin and usually made of a polyester material to wick away any sweat from your feet.

Most important though, is to have the right size boot or shoe, never wear boots or shoes too small to accommadate heavy winter socks. It's not the sock, it's the way you are using them.

This was the first year with our cold and wet Boston winters that I finally decided to buy suitable socks to wear with my boots. Every year I have suffered with cold feet plus with having them get a little damp. These cushioned, moisture-wicking crew socks featuring ribbed cuff and reinforced sole are absolutely amazing. I did much research and chose these socks and am very happy I did. They are so well made - thick and durable. When I put them on I was struck by how thick they were and how it honestly felt like I was walking on clouds due to their softness. They ride far up beyond my ankles but manage to not be too hot. So the softness and thickness was great but how would they actually work. We have had 3 major snow storms here in Boston so far this winter and these socks have been put to the test with my winter boots. With these Carhartt socks my feet remain warm and comfortable no matter how cold the temperature plus no matter how much snow I may walk in. And my feet never feel like they are getting wet and if any moisture is getting in the boots the moisture wicking detail of these socks is doing its job. I love that these socks are high rise on me for they keep me warm but not hot and prevent the cold from also not getting to my legs. I don't sweat in these socks due to the wool blend but instead remain warm and fully protected from the elements. For me they are great. Finally I can do whatever I want in our storms or out in the snow and not be concerned about the cold or wet. And let me end by saying again - these socks are so well made and soft! Highly recommend.

I work outside, on my feet for 8-10 hours at a time in rain, shine, snow, sleet, hail, and everything inbetween. There are thin socks, thick socks, warm socks, and then there are these - these socks are absolute gamechangers. The difference between these and my next warmest pair of socks is like night and day. These are the only socks I've ever worn during the winter that not only kept my foot warm, but also kept my TOES warm as well, which is an impossible feat (or feet, pun unintended)

Got a pair from a friend as a joke gift, immediately ordered 10 more pairs. Barring a career change to Sock Enthusiast/blogger, this is hopefully the first and last time I'll ever be evangelizing for socks.

I'm not sure how warm and durable these socks will be as I have purchased them in May so it will be several months before I wear them but they feel nice and fit so much better than previously purchased Carhartt socks of the same size (medium) that are huge by comparison and I only wear them with wellingtons because of the size. I have purchased 3 pairs of these socks which I fully hope and expect to last me through next winter and beyond and I will be so disappointed if they don't because as socks go they are certainly not cheap

best winter socks ive ever owned, and ive tried a few! found these better than the much higher priced sealskinz

Were a gift and were very well received.

Third season with those socks. I only wear them inside without shoes. They're warm, but the first season I wore them a whole appeared on one heel, and now there are like 3 or 4 smaller ones here and there. Overall, I would say they're ok socks, but I would only buy them again after I made sure I could not try some other brands first.

They go quite high up your leg, compared to other wool socks.. but not too high.
The sole has a lot of cushion and is quite obvious when walking on hardwood floors.

I haven't tested warmth yet but will do so this weekend and report back if they aren't sufficient in -20.

My bf loves ....his new fav socks

Die Größe (42 bei mir) passt auch sehr gut. Innen dickes Frottee Strick. Die Füsse bleiben angenehm warm und guter Trage Komfort.

sizing is off but seem good quality

Loved these all winter! When it gets to -30C they might not be quite warm enough, but 0 to -20C they're awesome.
