smartwool

The Smartwool community is a collection of people who believe that time outside is valuable, restorative, and essential for everyone. When Smartwool started making socks back in 1994, their founders simply wanted to be able to ski longer without getting cold toes. That’s when they discovered the benefits of Merino wool as a performance fabric. It was soft (softer than any wool they had every felt), moisture-wicking, thermoregulating (warm when it’s cold, and cool when it’s warm), sustainable, and odor-neutralizing- helping to keep feet dry, comfortable, and warm for longer than the synthetic socks they were wearing at the time. It worked so well, in fact, that Smartwool uses it in almost every single item they make.

Smartwool was the first outdoor company to make performance Merino wool ski socks- revolutionizing the category and forever changing the way outdoor enthusiasts viewed their feet.

Smartwool’s whole brand was built on the desire to be comfortable on outdoor adventures-we wanted to go farther and experience more. And that drive continues to fuel everything Smartwool does. From their Merino wool supply chain to the Smartwool advocacy program to how they design their socks and apparel, Smartwool exists to help you play, love, and laugh in the great outdoors as often as you would like.

Thinking I may have gotten a bum pair as after only 2 wearings and 1 washing the seams at the toe have come apart leaving holes in the socks. This issue would be easily fixable if I wanted to sew up the holes but, for what these socks cost, the quality should be better so they are being sent back.

I'll start by saying this - when I first bought these socks, I absolutely loved them! They are extremely comfortable and in terms of socks, probably the best I've ever owned, with one major exception; within 2 weeks they started developing large holes by the big toe. I paid almost $20 for a pair of socks that lasted about 2 weeks with regular wear. Thinking it was a fluke I went to REI and bought two more pairs, one pair of these specific socks, and another pair of SmartWool socks. Unfortunately these developed holes in almost the same amount of time. $55 of socks down the drain in less than a month. I just can't afford that kind of cost for socks.

To put this into perspective I am currently wearing a pair of Vans socks I purchased over a year ago and they haven't developed holes of any kind. As a matter of fact, before I purchased my SmartWool socks I hadn't purchased any new socks in at least a year and my sock drawer is full of socks without holes. I'm not sure what happened to the quality of these socks as SmartWool is a brand that was built on a premium, quality product, but my experience with their durability was extremely poor.

I made the switch to Wool Socks two years ago after recommendation from a friend. I was skeptical at first, as I always thought Wool was a cold weather product. I bought a pair and tried them out, and haven't used cotton socks since. I have tried several Brands and have found SMARTWOOL to be the best.
CAUTION : (Price) can be daunting, don't let that stop you from examining for yourself. If you are trying for the first time, buy SMARTWOOL. Also, check the specs and get the most percentage of WOOL possible. (Care) Always turn inside out to wash and dry; they will last much longer. I cant explain why, they just do.

Smartwool socks are one of my favorite things in life. My feet sweat a lot, so cotton socks tend to be damp a lot of the day #ew. I like the look of these, since all my others are black & navy. They dry so easily and seem to resist smell; great for all year. I've got plenty of crew and knee-high socks for work, and their thicker sport ones are awesome winter boots or shoes on cold days here in Chicago!

My go-to socks for three seasons. I work in an office environment. These socks are the perfect weight for work and a great substitute for traditional poly/cotton dress socks. I go with the slightly heavier weight smartwools when it drops into the low 30s. Above 80 I switch to cotton dress socks as these will feel too warm at that point. The charcoal color goes with most anything and they look classy. I also like the brown. They last about two years with regular wear when rotating with several other pairs. I rarely wash them as I've found they last much longer. I just hang them in my closet from my shoe rack to air out for a day and they hardly ever have any odor (if they do I wash them). Best socks ever made!

Nice enough to wear to the office with a suit. With the merino blend, these can be taken on vacation and worn for more than one day without washing. Though not padded or as warm as a hiking sock, these would be comfortable to wear on a warm weather hike. A great versatile sock! At $11.46, this was a very reasaonable price.

My husband needed comfy socks with his fancy work shoes and these are dressy enough to wear. He owns one only but if this last a while we definitely will order more. I personally think these cost a lot but they are nice enough to gift to friends and family.

WOW - these socks are great. Didn't like that elastic around the arch the other smartwool socks I have owned. Bugged me. These don't have it. Very thin and soft, but amazingly warm. You'll like 'em. Men with regular size (9-11) need to get LARGE. Those of you with the really big feet need to get even larger. Men's small would work OK for most regular size women. - JayHutch

The best thing about these socks is they stay where they should, rather than ending up round your ankles! Smartwool's lightest but warm and very comfortable for spring and autumn wear. Bought to replace an earlier pair. The 50:50 wool/nylon mix should wear better than pure wool. There are cheaper socks out there but I doubt they work as well.

Nice, but developed a fault. However a full refund was given

    Exactly as advertised
