So yea, I started getting into running again and I was trying to solve the "what do I do with my phone" problem. Bags and straps didn't appeal to me and I don't have a runners watch or an AppleWatch so... Something with a pocket. Shorts and some pull-over shirts or jackets I have do have pockets but they bounce around pretty good unfortunately.

Getting to it... The pocket opening is about 3" wide. I'm fitting a iPhone XS w/case in there and it fits, the very end doesn't stay in the "cap" area and just pokes out the opening. A smaller phone or different device would obviously stay completely in the pocket. I was concerned that I would inadvertently "push/squeeze" my phone out while running and it would crash to the ground as I keep on until my music cuts out. But it doesn't. Even though about 1cm of my phone sticks out of the pocket, it stays secure during my entire 5K run. This is because the pocket is on the side of my leg instead of the front/back of my thigh. If it were on the front/back, it would move up and down and possibly be pushed out. But because it's on the side of my leg, it's only a side-to-side motion and stays put.

However, a XS is probably the upper limit of phone size I would try to fit in this thing... unless the pocket is bigger on bigger sizes? I only have the one medium pair so I can't answer that question for you.

Fits well, doesn't ride up the leg, and looks nice. A little on the expensive side, but that's forgivable.

One complaint, though: The material sewn into the waistband is a long flat ribbon of elastic of some sort, and it isn't secured inside the band itself. What this means is that the band can twist and curl onto itself and become thin and rope-like, putting all its pressure on a narrow part of your waist and 'bite in.'

This is not a severe problem, since I wear the right size for my waist, and for most won't be a problem at all, but I noticed a bit of a pinch and the fact its free-floating bothers my OCD to boot.

In comparison to NB's standard 6" boxer briefs (which, in my opinion are some of the best quality/price mens boxer briefs) these are a couple notches up in quality, comfort and longevity. IMO easily worth the price difference and they have almost a compression short type of fit/ feel without being too constricting.

Elastic waste rolls when washed. First time I wore them they were great. Washed and the next I had to fix the twisted waist band. I’ll give them a 3/5.

After a couple washes, the side pocket becomes too loose to hold a phone. My phone slipped out on a run and shattered on the cement. The elastic waist band is also free floating in the fabric so it gets twisted up in weird ways. Basically the worst running short I’ve ever bought

As a compression short it’s is just fine, but I got this for the phone pocket which an iPhone 11 does not fit in. The width is fine but the pocket is not deep enough. Tried using these for a bike ride and my phone fell out 2x.

My girl likes it when I wear them and then pull out the artillery!

Beautiful underwear , I love the pocket on the side ....
