These pants fit and feel great. I am 5'8" and weigh around 175lbs, the Large fit my 36" waist perfectly with room to move around a little. The exact fit I was looking for. I opted for the 30" inseam to wear these barefoot or with sandals on exclusively. Otherwise I would have gone with the 32" to wear with boots.

(For those who don't understand the sizing, the XS: 28", Small: 30"-32", Medium: 34", Large: 36"-38", XL: 40"-42", XXL: 44"-46").

The brief on the inside feels fine, nothing special there but reminds me of wearing swim trunks when I was a kid in the 80's...aside from that there is a drawstring on the inside too, which the description doesn't mention. A nice touch for those thinking that this is exclusively an elastic waistband and may not want to buy these based on that. So they are able to cinch tight if needed.

The pockets are all good sized and are mesh as well, allowing more air flow from them. The back pocket has a nice zip closure for those items you don't want to fall out, like credit cards or cash. And the little lower "carpenter" pant pocket (as i'm calling it), fits an iPhone 5C with an Otterbox case perfectly! It is probably meant to hold a fisherman's pliers or multitool, but will fit anything like that.

The PFG throws me off a little bit, as I don't see why they didn't just leave that out (i'm not a fisherman), and it saying that on them makes people who don't fish not want to wear or buy stuff that says "it's for fishing" in. Not a big deal, if I really wanted to I could unstitch the little patch logo and be done with it.

These pants are a summer weight for sure, and actually look very sharp by themselves. I plan to wear these at a beach wedding this summer. The "Fossil" color is a nice natural tan, blends perfectly with beaches, dunes, or desert environments. The "Cypress" color is a lovely mossy shade that would be great in any forest, jungle, or mountain range. (Get both).

Other than that, these pants are really great, lightweight, packable, and affordable! I highly recommend, and will be buying the other color as well.

I have fair skin that takes sun damage easily. Over the years I have accumulated sufficient damage to routinely see a dermatologist for treatment of actinic keratosis and removal of a few basal cell carcinomas. As a result, I use sunscreen whenever I'm in the sun. But, like most people, I find it difficult to remember to re-apply sunscreen regularly, especially when at social events, sporting events, etc. So I have taken to wearing more sun protective clothing. These Columbia Backcast pants are highly effective leg protection while also being very light and comfortable. They are essentially a full leg swimsuit with a mesh support liner built in to the pants. I have worn them in the heat of the midwest summer and been as comfortable or more comfortable than I am wearing shorts and heavy sunscreen on my legs. About the only thing that keeps them from being 5 stars for me is that the fabric has a crinkled appearance that keeps them from being suitable for other than really casual wear.

These pants are pretty good for fishing and I ordered two pairs. The reason I didn't give them a higher mark is because of the pants had a defect. The wallet pocket was sewn shut and could not be used until I pulled some of the stitches out that were erroneously blocking it. It happened when they sewed on the logo there. Also, I really don't like the built in underwear that is made of a mesh material. I prefer to wear underwear separately and had to remove (cut) the mesh stuff from inside these before I could wear them. Also, that same mesh material used used for the pocket lining and when I have my keys in my picket, that pick at my legs. Heavier pocket material should be used.

I like them. I'm about 6'3 and 205lbs, and I got the Large/34. I have somewhat bigger thighs, and these fit great. No more of that tight thighs stuff I get with a lot of other pants. I knew there was a liner prior to buying it, and I had already made up my mind to cut that out, which I did. Some may like it or find use for it, but you can always modify. I also read this in another review, but the color is a little lighter than it looks like in the pictures, but it's nothing crazy. And then the length of the pants was a little longer than I typically like to wear my pants, but I bought these for hiking, so the extra coverage will probably suit me good to help block some sun and keep the bugs off.

I think some reviews are boring
So I choose to speak in rhyme
Before we go much further let me thank you for your time
I found the pants to be fitting
    I think the color nice
I cut out the lining based on other people's advice
I wear these when it's hot
they tend to keep my body cool
    While others burn their skin
    I don't feel like a fool
When you pack these in your luggage
    They take up little space
When I can only bring a few things
    These always have a place

Hi, Wanted a pair of quick-dry nylon hiking pants. I am a gal & ordered these because I hate all the low-waisted pant styles for women. Have 3 pairs now, 2 long & 1 zip-off. Love the high-cut elastic waist. I am a size 6, so ordered small and they fit great, except they are too long, men's pants don't come with short enough inseams (only reason I don't give them 5*). So I shortened them. Wish they would make the same style pants in women's sizes/lengths!

I had a pair of pants of similar materials a few years ago until I wore them out. I couldn't find them until I came across these by accident. I was surprised because I hadn't seen them before and I like Columbia branded clothes. They didn't have my size but I found them on Amazon and ordered them and had them two days later. They are light weight and flexible and feel great. I am ordering at least another pair, maybe two. I agree with other reviewer about the PFG. These pants are good for anyone, not just for fishing. It may come from that line but I have other PFG clothing that I like also although I haven't been fishing since I was a kid.
