I like these shorts. Best thing is the large cargo pockets. It's getting harder to get cargo pockets that will fit today's larger cell phones. They easily fit my Galaxy S5 phone with the case on. Phone can be carried either horizontally or vertically in either pocket. The cargo pockets secure with one velcro patch in the center of the pocket. Material is mid-weight and looks like it will stand up to some punishment. The only con is there is no retention on the two back pockets. A velcro patch, button, or snap would be welcome here to prevent your wallet from falling out.

True to size. Material is pretty think denim/cotton — much heavier than I’d want. I tried the 8” inseam version and I’m 6’ and normally wear a 32” length pant and the 8” was several inches above the knee. My wife thought the length was fine, but I felt they were a little too short. The length looked even weirder because the leg openings are gigantic. I’ve been a soccer player and cyclist all me life and have big quads and developed hamstrings and these legs were HUGE! I felt like Urkel or an old grandpa going on an birdwatching hike. Not modern/fashionable at all...

These shorts with the 8 inch inseam are a perfect length for an average size male person. They are not so long as to cover the knee which restricts leg movement. The material is not as heavy as the cotton twill used in earlier Columbia shorts so they might not be quite as durable. Time will tell. The positive for the lighter weight fabric is it that it could very well be cooler for summer. The order was placed in a variety of colors(Fossil, British Tan, Olive,Brown Light and Dark Grey, and which all them where in very nice shades. The other best feature is the velcro front pockets. They are far more convenient than fumbling with a button on the thigh to get something out of the pocket or putting something in. Kudos to the clever people who have realized buttons are dumb and a source of frustration for so many men. Keep it simple.

These have been one of my better buys online. I bought these 3-4 years ago. They were a great price then and have been great. The metal button above the zipper finally came off but I will see it on soon. The only thing I don't care for it the division in the right pocket. I guess it is for change to separate. It makes it a little tougher to get to. It is an insignificant complaint so I gave it 5 Stars.

FIX YOUR BUTTONS. I have bought two pairs of these shorts and both pairs have had buttons pop off of them like nothing. They would be 5 stars but Columbia can't be bothered with spending the time to sew on buttons. I'm about to order a sewing kit to do their job for them. Resisted urge to not give them 1 star, but come on guys.

I bought two pairs of these shorts to replace an old pair of similar design. The old Columbia shorts were made of much thicker material. These were a disappointment due to the material quality. Fortunately Levi's makes cargo shorts that are the same quality as the old Columbia shorts. To Levi's I go.....(actually, went)

I ordered a 34, which I can wear comfortably in other brands, but could not button it at the waist. It measures about a 33. Returned it and got a 36, which is actually about a 35, and it fits well.

The shorts fits to size, the material is lighter than used to be that might actually be beneficial on the long run. The lighter cotton won't be as warm than the previous heavy cotton; on the other hand, it may not stand up as well to wear. The first one arrived factory stains on the shorts, but had been quickly replaced without any issues. The replacement arrived quickly and no problems...
