The shirt arrived well packaged and plastic wrapped. It has some heft, indicative of the density of fabric. Here are some notes:

-- The fabric is a very good broadcloth fabric with dense weave. It has a very slight sheen to it when new. Like most white smooth broadcloth shirts, it is slightly transparent, which isn’t a fault per se, but should be noted if you were thinking of opaque fabrics like oxfords or chambrays. The thread count while not specified looks high, and feels like a two-ply fabric.
-- The stitching density is very high, measures to about 1mm per stitch, and runs approximately 5mm from the edge. It looks refined and has very little puckering after washing.
-- Single stitched side seam, which along with the relatively narrow 5mm stitch to edge distance, results in a very clean elegant finish.
-- There’s no pleats in the back and no gussets at the bottom. That’s personal preference, but to me it also results in a more “bespoke” look particularly without pleats.
-- The buttons are standard diameter but also relatively thick “mother of pearl” types. They are secured tightly with a very good solid cross stitching. The buttonholes are also very cleanly finished without any loose threads.
-- It’s of a very decent length that doesn’t feel “shrunken” like many “fitted” cut shirts.

-- They do offer an incredible combination of sizes. It measures the collar and arm length as is conventional here in the US. The chest size is thus only suggested from those other two measures and isn’t precise. However, chest size is probably more important as a measurement for a “fitted” look. I like some of the other shirt measurements standards (e.g. European) where neck and chest size can be selected separately. As it stands, I do have a 16.5” neck but a 43” chest. Evidently you can’t seem to select that size combination. As a result, the “fitted shirt” with 16.5” collar would fit a 46.5” chest. I do find a tapered waist, and the shirt fits surprisingly well being 3.5” larger than my chest measurement; but of course more like a “regular fit” with some room particularly around the torso and back. It’s not the fault of the shirtmaker as the measurements are indeed listed, and nothing suggests that the finished product deviates from the stated sizes. I just wish there are more choices particularly with regards to chest/neck size combinations, especially seeing how fitted looks depend on it.

All in all this is a very high quality shirt with good craftsmanship and quality materials. There’s little that I could find at fault with its materials or construction, as there have evidently been attention to such details. Pay particular attention to the chest sizes in the size chart, especially if you want a fitted look. It is a quality shirt at fair prices, especially if you can find the right size within its numerous selections.

I'm a big fan of the Buttoned Down Men's Fitted Pinpoint dress shirt. As someone who has purchased several custom tailored shirts before, I'm very happy to pay less than $40 for a nice fitted shirt. If I'm not buying my dress shirts tailored, I am almost always buying them at Nordstroms. Dress shirts last me a long time and I'm definitely picky about what I wear. There are times though that I need to iron or dry clean those shirts and want to be lazy. That's when I throw on iron free shirts like this one from Buttoned Down.

I do have a bigger frame, since I lift weights, so I can see how some of the reviews might think the shirt is too boxy or too big in the shoulders and sides. But for guys with decent sized shoulders with a chest and back to match, this shirt should fit them perfectly. It's certainly not a Euro fitted shirt for really slim guys. The material of this shirt, in blue, is not too thin or thick and looks great with a suit or jeans. I tuck this shirt in as it looks a bit long on me if I untuck it. (5'9" size 17 neck and 33" arms). The shirt has removable collar stays to keep it upright and tidy looking.
If it doesn't suit your preferences, Buttoned Down has a 100% satisfaction guarantee so you can return it.
The shirt is 100% cotton with a little bit of stretch, and if taken out of the wash immediately after it finishes, you can get away without ironing it. One hint, use the perm press setting on your washer - it's designed to minimize wrinkles in your clothing by using warm water on the first rinse to reduce wrinkles. It then finishes off the wash with a cold rinse with a slower spin cycle to reduce wrinkles. The perm press setting is one of those things most people don't know about.

I purchased same shirt in white too. The value and quality of the shirt is well above the $40 price tag.

Edit: For those reviews who were complaining about the blue seam showing through on the white shirt, I included pictures using a photo lamp and real camera. Considering the shirt is most likely going to be worn under a jacket, it's not really a huge deal. Plus anyone who has owned white dress shirts should know the material can be a bit see through. The quality of the shirt is really nice and the fit is spot on.

My career requires that I wear dress shirts basically daily and suits several times a week. I ordered the size that I wear in other shirts that offer 16/34. It fits great. Its long enough to stay safely tucked in, but not too long. I've worn this shirt a few times since getting it and its very comfortable. Its made of a thin material that is very breathable even considering its a non-iron shirt, so its great under a suit in the summer. I wear crew neck undershirts under my white dress shirts so the v-neck won't be visible through the white shirt. The v-neck isn't visible through this blue shirt, even though its very thin.

Its my experience that some non-iron shirts wear pretty quickly given how often I wear and wash/dry them. This one looks good so far, but time will tell.

NO CHEST POCKET. This is my fault. I use the chest pocket on my shirts. I keep a pen there and maybe a folded piece of paper to make quick notes on. This shirt doesn't have a chest pocket. That's clearly visible in the photo. I just wish it had it. I may update this review to 5 stars once I see how the shirt ages.

Are they the best dress shirts out there? No. Is the non-iron quality as good as others? No. However, for the price, they are good enough. In my opinion, they are better than the non-iron shirts from other lower priced retailers such as Uniqlo. They are not as good as the non-iron shirts from Brooks Brothers but they are about 1/3 of the price - like I said, good enough.

I just wish their fitted shirts were a little more tapered.

I wish they would publish more information on the wave and thread weight so that we could make a more informed decision. The fabric is distinctly thin, you could clearly see features through the white shirt.

At first I was thrilled to be order in a 18.5" neck and 34" sleeve, but was quickly disappointed with how baggy the shirt was. I strongly recommend you reconsider. I would never, ever, call myself "thin" or "slim, but I have re-ordered in "slim". Give how loose the fitted size is, "regular" must be gigantic.

good quality basic shirt for casual wear with jeans and jacket. Have purchased two of these now.
